Press Release, Posted on February 13, 2015
Seattle, Wash. (February 13, 2015) – Phinney Bischoff was honored to be part of the team that earned Portland State University (PSU) a Grand Gold Award in the Platinum category, which was awarded in February at the CASE Communications Awards Celebration Luncheon at the Grand Hyatt in Seattle. The CASE District VIII Conference is a convergence of advancement professionals from over 130 higher education institutions to recognize outstanding work in advancement and communications in the educational environment.
The Platinum awards category was introduced to the CASE Conference for the first time this year, recognizing the best-of-the-best communications practices for educational advancement. The Platinum Awards are divided into seven sub-categories; PSU entered their “Fearless” Integrated Marketing Campaign for “Best Practices in Communications and Marketing.” As a Grand Gold winner, PSU’s work was selected as the highest caliber of work among all seven Platinum categories.
“Our partners at Phinney Bischoff did an exceptional job guiding our team through the research and creative process. They are strategic, results oriented and delightful to work with. I'd like to thank them for helping Portland State reach new heights with the fearless campaign.” — Julie Smith, Director of Marketing, University Communications
PSU began partnering with Phinney Bischoff in 2013 in order to develop and implement a campus-wide marketing campaign that would unite the school’s fragmented marketing and advertising efforts, and ultimately improve engagement across a variety of audiences. This work’s purpose was to increase enrollment, lay the groundwork for a fundraising campaign, increase alumni and donor engagement, and improve the reputation of PSU’s academic programs. Phinney Bischoff conducted 60 hours of work sessions with the PSU team, produced 592 pages of research, and analyzed data from 910 survey respondents. After multiple strategic directions were presented and creative concepts were tested, Phinney Bischoff created a campaign that ensured relevance across all audiences and built confidence among the PSU marketing committee members in achieving their goals. The award-winning campaign, “Fearless”, highlights the independent spirit PSU students and alumni share, and showcases the many noteworthy accomplishments of Viking graduates. The final campaign materials included an in-depth implementation guide, sample extensions for different audiences and departments, and roll-out consulting.
