A bit of a remodel
Canyon Creek is a leading West Coast cabinet manufacturer that offers thousands of combinations of door styles, wood species, stain colors, and finish enhancements. Phinney Bischoff collaborated closely with Canyon Creek in rebuilding their brand strategy and visual language, guiding them towards a new direction aligned with their company vision. After completing this foundational work, the next natural step was updating their digital presence. This website redesign extended beyond a mere visual update into an opportunity to increase the level of functionality and ease of use for their customers. It was paramount that we display the full breadth of Canyon Creek’s inventory along with the high quality of their service.
Research + Insight
We began our redesign research by reviewing customer feedback and the company’s personal experiences in dealing with local cabinet dealers. This led us to determine that the website should be visually-driven, featuring beautiful photography in order to demonstrate the degree of craftsmanship in Canyon Creek’s products and custom-build capabilities. Another major opportunity uncovered was the idea to artfully showcase the expansive range of Canyon Creek’s cabinet choices in an intuitive, interactive format. This would allow potential customers to choose the exact cabinet configurations they desired before even entering the company showroom in Snohomish, Washington.
Design + Development
Displaying this wide spectrum of cabinet design possibilities was no easy task. Canyon Creek’s full inventory spanned over 70,000 unique combinations of custom cabinet door builds…but none of this was in a database. In order to bring clarity to this massive print catalog, we created a custom, comprehensive filtering system within the CMS for users to narrow down which cabinet types most interested them, along with a compare feature that enabled analyzing and contrasting specific options. We also added the ability to favorite individual cabinet door styles, saving selections into a curated catalog that customers could bring to an interior designer. For those browsing simply to seek creative inspiration, we built an Inspiration Gallery full of photos with details that outlined the specifics of each cabinetry build.
Behind this slick user experience lay a powerful back-end system that handled the colossal door style database along with several forms and third-party integrations. We designed the CMS to be user-friendly for the Canyon Creek team and provided training sessions on how to best use it going forward. Confident with this new interface, they can now update photography, content, job openings, and banners as needed without the need of further development help.
Bringing the Canyon Creek website to life required a clear UX strategy that made navigation efficient for every user. By building a solid site architecture informed by user journeys, prioritizing stunning cabinet imagery, and adding compelling copy that reflected the newly minted brand ethos, we transformed a complicated website into an effortless experience. The finalized Canyon Creek site weaves together elegant design, a comprehensive yet flexible build, and a delightful user experience for all visitors.
